The Sony VPL-CX5 is one of the latest additions to the ranks of high-quality Sony projectors, and is ideal for handling presentations when you are always on the move.
Compact and light enough to be easily carried, the projector provides a brightness of 2000 ANSI lumens, XGA (1204 X 768) resolution and a full range of functions.
The VPL-CX5 adopts Sony original virtual light system with the all-new super high aperture liquid crystal panel and newly developed bright 165W UHP lamp. The all-new elliptical reflector with ultra smooth surface combined with a concave lens enables very small light source and accomplish very high light collection efficiency. This provides the audience with a clear, crisp and bright image every time.

With simple, elegant cabinet design, the Sony VPL-CX5 take projector styling to new levels. Just the buttons most commonly used are located on the sleek top panel, giving the cabinet a flat, smooth appearance and making it easy to handle when you’re in transit. Other controls and connectors are conveniently concealed behind a cover when not in use.
To lighten your load, the projectors weigh less than 5 lb15 oz. Both models provide a handsome, durable carrying bag, so they can be always at your side and ready for action anywhere, anytime.
The VPL-CX5 are USB-ready — supplied with a dedicated remote control unit that gives you integrated wireless mouse function for point-and-click control of your USB-connected computer.
The control unit is equipped with keys to control multiple functions quickly and easily, providing seamless presentations that keep your audience involved.
With a built-in scan converter, so they can accept a composite video, component video or RGB video input signals. Also accepts PC signals up to SXGA+.
When power is switched on, the powered lens protector opens automatically. You never waste time
looking for a missing lens cover — it’s always safe on your projector.
A power operated tilt adjuster sets the projector's shooting angle, and keystone distortion is automatically corrected according to the tilt angle. The tilt angle is adjustable from the remote control unit and the new setting is retained in memory.
Keystone distortion can be corrected up to 15 degrees. This means you can project images with correct geometry even where installation space is limited.
A Smart APA function automatically sizes and adjusts your image display for optimum picture performance. You are free from making those difficult and time-wasting adjustments.
Why count on an external computer? With high-performance “Memory Stick” media, you can make PC-less presentations that run right from your projector. Showing Microsoft PowerPoint® presentations, TIFF and JPEG files, even digital photos is a snap, with no need to connect a PC to the projector and you’ll have control functions such as Auto Run or Start Up to make your presentations look even more professional.
You can easily create slide shows or on-screen movies by using a JPEG still picture file or an MPEG1 movie file. PowerPoint (PPT, PPS) presentations, BMP, TIFF and JPEG files can be edited and saved on “Memory Stick” media with simple drag & drop operation*3 using supplied Sony Projector Station™ (for presentation) software.*4 Even files in different formats can be automatically combined into a single file.
Connect a PC running Sony Projector Station (for control) software to your projector’s USB port, and you can select input and Picture Muting from your PC. When your presentation materials have been assigned to the software beforehand, they can be opened instantly.
