The electronics are the newest aspect of the range. Video processing is handled by a MediaTek MT9681 chip, which Epson uses under the name Epson AI Imaging. The AI Picture Quality Scene 2.0+ function continuously analyzes the image, recognizes faces among other things, and adjusts color, contrast and sharpness scene by scene. It is joined by upscaling from standard- or high-definition sources to 4K (AISR), useful with a TV channel or an old DVD, and motion processing for fast-moving images.
These automated features are useful for a match or a live broadcast. For a carefully graded film, a fixed picture mode with minimal processing remains preferable, and Cinema and Natural modes sit alongside more vivid modes.
